What SignRequest is built for
SignRequest was founded in Amsterdam in 2014 and bought by Box in 2021; its technology also powers Box Sign. Its core workflow is sending: you upload a document, mark where each person signs, and SignRequest emails them a link. It tracks who has signed, sends reminders, lets you fix a signing order, and records an audit trail for every document. The Professional plan adds templates, custom branding, a public signing link and text-message verification of signers (charged extra). The Business plan adds a Salesforce integration and single sign-on, plus bulk sending and an API, both charged extra. If your work involves getting other people's signatures, those features matter, and SigPDF does not offer them.
What SigPDF is built for
SigPDF covers the other side: someone has sent you a PDF and you need to sign it and send it back. You open the file in your browser, fill in its form fields, draw or type your signature, add initials, dates or text, and download the signed PDF. The document is processed on your device and never uploaded to our servers, so there is no account area full of your contracts, no copy to delete afterwards, and nothing for a third party to store. Your last five signatures are saved in your browser for the next document.
Price for a typical user
For someone who signs a handful of documents a month and never sends any, SigPDF costs €2.99 a month or €24.99 a year, with no cap on downloads. SignRequest's free plan allows 10 documents per user per month, and its paid plans start at €9 per user per month. If you mostly send a few documents a month for others to sign, SignRequest's free plan can be the cheaper option. If you only sign what you receive and want the file to stay on your computer or phone, SigPDF is the simpler fit.
Privacy and records
Any send-for-signature service has to hold your document, because the other signers open it from the provider's servers. That is also what lets it produce an audit trail showing who signed and when. SigPDF keeps the document on your device but, for the same reason, cannot produce that trail. Choose based on what you need more for a given document: a provider-held record of every signer, or a file nobody else ever receives.
Which one should you use?
- Choose SignRequest if you send contracts to clients, need several people to sign in order, want reminders and an audit trail, or already store files in Box.
- Choose SigPDF if you sign documents you have received, such as leases, NDAs, forms or offer letters, and prefer that they are not uploaded anywhere.
